About the Author

Gerald Hough was born in 1952 which makes him quite ancient in the eyes of many today.  He was brought up in a time when even having a TV was considered a luxury, when there was no hint of modern communication devices and travel outside of the UK was limited due to the cost, coupled early on with exchange restrictions. Family holidays were taken in the UK.

On leaving school he slowly established his career, qualifying as an accountant, working in London, Paris and Sydney in Australia. He married Anne in 1979 and they had four children, Ashley, Max, Tanith and Rory. They now have seven grandchildren.

He worked in commerce in various jobs before moving into the City of London in 1988, joining Morgan Grenfell Asset Management, becoming a director in 1996. On leaving he set up his own business using web technology to facilitate graduate recruitment for major UK financial institutions. In 2008 Gerald and Anne moved to Guernsey where they now live.

In 2016 the kernel of an idea to write about his father’s war grew into a book published by Pen & Sword in 2021, called Desert Raids with the SAS.   His wife Anne, who had raced sailboats in Guernsey and qualified as a Yacht Master,  undertook a single leg in the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race in 2017. This experience triggered a desire to circumnavigate and she signed up for the 2019/ 2020 race.

Gerald keeps himself fit with tennis, golf, swimming, hiking and skiing. Since his retirement in 2016 he has spent his time in a voluntary role as a director and chairman of the Channel Islands Tennis and Padel LBG, responsible to the LTA in the UK.
